The Species: This recently described (2008) species is from Yunnan Province, China. It is a short lived flower but makes up for that in size as it is larger than the plant. It grows at elevations from to 5600 to 6250 ft on oak trees in mixed deciduous and evergreen forests. The flowers are about 1.6″ wide and are as large as the plant.
Culture: The mature plants may best grown mounted so the roots can dry quickly. It receives ample water and fertilizer during the growing season (May to October) and then needs a cool to cold, dry rest in the winter.
